Easter Weekend is right around the corner.
Families often gather and enjoy together time and good food. Just like Christmas, this event can add stress to your marriage. Family gatherings can bring out the best and worst in people. Maybe uncle Bob drives you insane or your brother, Tim, is an unrefined, anti-religious, politically incorrect irritant to you. Maybe being around your in-laws brings the worst thoughts to your mind about your spouse.
I want to encourage you to focus on three simple things.
Number One: Don't forget that Jesus died on the cross for all of us, including those you don't like to be around. This is a perfect time to take a deep breath and simply thank God for sending his son to die for you. Give mercy to those family members that irritate you. Remember that Jesus died for them too.
Number Two: Remember, you might be the only access your family has to someone who is a believer in Jesus. Maybe God wants you to be the bridge between them and Him?
Number Three: Love covers a multitude of sins. (1 Peter 4:8) What does that mean? When you choose to love others, maybe God gives you extra mercy and blessings. When you choose to love those who are difficult, maybe your sins are covered more. Can't say that I know for sure but it sure sounds like Jesus when you think about it. Loving someone doesn't mean you are endorsing their life, lifestyle, opinions, or their poor behavior. It simply means you love them. Don't overthink it, just try it.
I pray this helps you during this very important week and weekend.
